Trimix is a medication designed to address erectile dysfunction. It combines three powerful ingredients: an alpha-adrenergic antagonist (phentolamine), a prostaglandin (alprostadil), and a vasodilator (papaverine). These work together to relax the smooth muscles in the penis, increase blood flow, and maintain an erection. Specialized pharmacies offer a range of Trimix strengths and combinations to suit individual needs. Since the optimal dose varies depending on factors such as age, overall health, and the severity of erectile dysfunction, there is no standardized dosing protocol. Experienced practitioners typically start with a low dose and carefully adjust it. Once the correct dose is administered, Trimix can lead to an erection within 5 – 20 minutes, with many men reporting positive effects such as increased hardness and stamina.
A Brief History of Trimix
Intracavernous injection therapy, starting with papaverine in 1982, led to the development of effective new treatments for treating erectile dysfunction. Over time, the therapy was refined and improved, leading to the development of Trimix.

Due to high costs and inconsistent insurance coverage, many patients turn to compounded formulations, like Trimix, as an alternative.
Preventing and Treating Priapism
Priapism, an erection lasting longer than 4 hours, is a primary concern for Trimix patients. Proper adherence to guidelines and following your doctor’s advice is crucial to avoid this condition. Trimix should not be co-administered with oral ED treatments due to the risk of priapism.
Remember not to take PDE5 inhibitors within 24 hours of Trimix administration. These inhibitors include sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil, and avanafil. Tadalafil (Cialis) should not be used within two days of a Trimix injection. Patients undergoing Testosterone Replacement Therapy with or without hCG can take Trimix or ICI therapies. Patients starting testosterone after using Trimix regularly may need a slightly lower dose.
It’s crucial to understand the options available to reverse priapism and always keep a ‘rescue kit’ containing these options when using Trimix. In the rare event that the rescue kit options fail and the erection has persisted for 4 hours or is painful, rest assured that immediate medical attention is readily available and necessary.
